Free Walk-In Insurance Analysis
The first step in this process is to determine whether your medical insurance plan pays for weight loss surgery. Insurance companies will provide you with a policy manual which describes your plan details and explains what surgical procedures are covered and which are excluded from coverage. If weight loss surgery is an excluded benefit, other financing options are available.
Researching this type of information can be difficult. The Metabolic Surgery Center employs a team of insurance specialists that will do the ground work for you. All you need to do is walk in to the office and let us get started. We will need a copy of your insurance card and we will take care of the rest! This is a benefit not offered at most other bariatric surgery programs. Call 615 284-2400.
Our office accepts walk-in appointments Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 3:30pm for a free insurance analysis. The walk-in appointment consists of insurance verification and a detailed analysis by a designated insurance specialist. Your insurance specialist will discuss the requirements that your insurance company requires be obtained prior to your surgery and this insurance specialist will work with you from your first visit until your surgery is approved. If insurance coverage is not available, financing options are also discussed at this initial visit.

LIVE Seminars
Dr. Spaw presents a detailed overview of all four procedures the first Thursday of each month at 6:00pm near the Metabolic Surgery Center. Directions to our office will be provided to you when you schedule attendance. During a live seminar, Dr. Spaw uses a slide presentation with anatomic representations of each of the four procedures and compares the risks and benefits as well. You will meet with one of our insurance specialists who can help get the process started while you are attending the seminar. A packet of useful information will be provided to you as well. You are welcome to bring a family member if you wish. With over 20 years in the practice of surgery, Dr. Spaw will give you the benefit of his time and experience. Online Seminar (EmmiPrep)
EmmiPrep® online seminars are available to you without charge. The four procedures Dr. Spaw performs are Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, duodenal switch, sleeve gastrectomy and Lap Band surgery. From the comforts of your own home, the free online seminar gives you a wealth of knowledge on all four weight loss procedures. You can review the information as many times as you like and you have the opportunity to type in questions as the seminar proceeds.

Reviewing online seminars is an absolute requirement before weight loss surgery.
EmmiPrep® seminars can be assigned to you by contacting the Metabolic Surgery Center at 615 284-2400 during office hours. All you need is an e-mail address and access to a computer. If you don’t have a computer at home, you are welcome to use a computer provided for you in the office.
